The position at a glance

 

BNP Paribas has established a first line of defense (1LoD) surveillance function within Global Markets Front Office, under the remit of the Chief Conduct and Control Officer. The Front Office Conduct Surveillance (FOCS) team monitors the activities carried out by Global Markets, as well as other business units to detect potential Conduct issues.

 

This role is within the Front Office Conduct Surveillance Anti-Fraud unit, which undertakes monitoring of the Bank’s activities in order to detect potential incidents of Market-Related Fraud and Rogue Trading. This will be a key role to support the Anti-Fraud control framework that allows for the development of skills in monitoring and risk management. Frequent interaction with Risk, Compliance, business/front office and other internal stakeholders is essential.

 

 

In detail:

 

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Performance of investigative activities pertaining to Market-Related Fraud:
    1. Responding to escalations of Market-Related Fraud suspicion from other 1LOD teams
    2. Responding to potential Market-Related Fraud and Rogue Trading events identified by the surveillance systems
    3. Analysis of information across a range of data sources, including trading systems, communications and other control functions 
    4. Consultation with 2LOD control functions (Risk, Compliance) and, where appropriate, within 1LOD to identify potential Market-Related Fraud issues
    5. Escalation of potential incidents to senior FOCS team members, Risk or others, where appropriate
    6. Ensure all action items are followed up within the agreed timelines
    7. Recording of activities and results within the relevant case manager
  • Contribution to key projects related to the ongoing development of the Anti-Fraud control framework:
    1. Identify gaps and enhancements in the internal monitoring and risk management framework
    2. Provide subject matter expertise on the topic of Market-Related Fraud
  • Contribution to the design and production of operational procedures and training documentation
  • Provide support and feedback to other 1LOD teams on potential Market-Related Fraud cases
  • Contribution to the design, production and distribution of management information reports related to Market-Related Fraud
  • Work collaboratively and maintain good relationships with the rest of the FOCS team, Risk, Compliance, the business, and other stakeholders
  • Act professionally and comply with the highest ethical standards and conduct
  • Comply with all applicable legal, regulatory and BNPP internal policies as well as the Code of Conduct. This includes, but is not limited to, Financial Security, Know Your Customer, Due Diligence, Client Interest Protection, Market Integrity, Professional Ethics and Respect for Colleagues.

 

 

 

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed:

 

  • Solid understanding of financial markets products and associated risks, including Fraud and Rogue trading-related risks; prior experience in the use/design of surveillance tools is a plus
  • Prior experience in financial markets: Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Front Office (Sales/Trading/ Investment Banking), Middle Office, or related Control Function, Audit, Compliance roles covering market or banking activities
  • Required expertise in front-to-back control framework 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Assertive, agile, willing to learn and adapt to different situations
  • Self-confident; ability to challenge the status quo
  • Good organization and communication skills are required to clearly articulate any surveillance/monitoring tool enhancement requirement when needed
  • Data Analytics and ad-hoc data research skills (e.g. Power BI, Python, etc.)
  • Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Knowledge of English is required.
