Business area

In the UK, Global Banking focuses on 4 main business areas: Corporate Clients Group, Capital Markets, Low Carbon Transition Group and Transaction Banking.

 

This role sits within Capital Markets, which is a platform designed to provide a fully integrated offer across debt and equity, and work closer with its issuer and investor clients.

 

Within this, Leveraged Finance EMEA’s mission is to serve the Bank’s corporate and private equity clients, by originating, structuring and executing High Yield Bond and Leveraged Loan transactions. 

 

Leveraged Finance EMEA has representatives in several countries including the UK, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany and Spain and is structured around:

  • Leveraged Finance Originators 
  • Structuring and Execution Group (SEG)
  • Sponsor Debt Coordination
  • TMT Finance Coordination

 

The Structuring and Execution Group is a central component of Leveraged Finance supporting senior originators marketing, structuring, and executing High Yield Bond and Leveraged Loan transactions on a pan-European basis.

Job purpose 

As an Analyst/Associate, the role holder will be accountable for the delivery of assigned activities (with increasing degree of complexity depending on seniority) in relation to transactions within Leveraged Finance. They will be expected to assist on a full range of activities in their team, including marketing, structuring, executing and regulation activities.

 

Key responsibilities

Depending on seniority, tasks may include: 

– Assisting in the origination of LBOs, refinancing, recaps and other event driven financings for Leveraged Finance clients

– Manage day-to-day execution of Leveraged Finance deal activity

– Preparing pitch books for client meetings (often working together with Advisory, ECM, Leveraged Loans and HYB Syndicate, Rating Advisory), interacting with relevant internal stakeholders 

– Writing credit papers for credit committee and manage internal credit/approval process

– Building and analysing financial models (P&L, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet) including preparing figures for assessment of potential external rating impact(s)

– Manage transactions post-closing when applicable

– Perform background industry and company research; synthesising information from diverse sources

– Track developments in the market, preparing pricing and market updates for clients as relevant 

• Adheres to and applies existing policies and procedures within established guidelines related to Leveraged Finance to all tasks in order to reliably deliver routine outputs for clients with a high standard of quality.

• Interacts with internal parties in both marketing and execution with some autonomy to drive effective delivery of all tasks.

• Involved in client and advisor (eg lawyers) communication and has full autonomy for routine tasks, with appropriate oversight.  

• Works under own initiative where possible, but refers more complex and technical issues to more senior colleagues in a timely manner for resolution and advice. Where appropriate, may delegate some tasks to junior team members. Engages with senior team members on both commercial and technical aspects of transactions.

• Prioritises workload as required to support the team and achieve their personal development and growth objectives within agreed timescales.

• Collaborates with team members and other teams and begins to offer solutions to problems

Requirements

• Professional qualification required with technical and broad understanding to an intermediate level of leveraged debt markets. Understands the market, credit, operational, compliance, legal, regulatory and reputational risks of transactions undertaken by the Leveraged Finance team. 

• Typically requires a university degree as an indicator of an ability to understand and apply complex theoretical concepts, although may have progressed into the role via equivalent business experience. 

• Strong analytical, modelling skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure. 

• Capacity to understand clients’ needs and provide a first level of answer within perimeter of responsibilities.

• Strong personal focus on accuracy and attention to detail and able to review and improve work of more junior colleagues.

• Good knowledge of BNP Paribas, the industry, and its products / services, with a demonstrable capacity and willingness to continue to develop market awareness autonomously and to learn and improve performance. Good awareness of credit and capital market risks.

• Good written and oral English skills in order to articulate technical issues associated to work area. 

• Knowledge of another European language is a plus.

• Able to coach and support colleagues in their performance and development.

• Computer literacy and a good knowledge of a range of standard computer software, e.g., Microsoft Office, email. Experience in using investment banking databases (e.g. Factset, Dealogic, Bloomberg).
