Business Area/Dept Overview:
The mission of RISK function is to provide Senior Management of the Group and of the Operating Divisions with full transparency and dynamic analysis of the risks and clients managed by the various operating divisions: Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) , Retail Banking, Investment & Protection Services (IPS).
The scope of the RISK function within CIB in London is:
- Market and Liquidity risks: covering the CIB capital markets activities, ALM Treasury as well as the IPS Business Units,
- Counterparty risks: covering all counterparty risks arising from derivative and repo transactions,
- Credit risks: credit analysis and approval for Financial Institutions Sovereigns, Wealth Management clients and other IPS private clients,
- Insurance risks: risks generated by Insurance activities
The RISK function contributes to the definition of the Group’s risk appetite, its risk decision making process and the optimisation of capital allocation to support the development of the Operating Divisions.
The RISK Systems team is part of RISK Global Services, whose mission includes providing the bank with a comprehensive capital markets risk system used to calculate market and counterparty risk capital figures using advanced methods and to support the needs of users for risk analysis, risk reporting and the credit process.
Job Purpose
The IT Risk and Cyber Security team sits within the IT Centre of Excellence whose mission is to serve as the focal point of IT expertise and guidance, driving excellence across the Market, Counterparty and Liquidity risk Cluster's (MCL Cluster) IT landscape.
The job supports the oversight and management of all IT risks in the MCL Cluster with a particular focus on the IT risks inherent in the operation and change of the Market and Counterparty Risk processes, applications and shadow IT, as well the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the bank-wide repository of sensitive market and counterparty risk data used in these activities. In addition the job supports the Operational Permanent Control of all operational risks in RISK Systems, including managing Risk Control Self Assessments, Historical Incidents, Potential Incidents, Risk Cards, Control Campaigns and Procedures.
The job requires frequent collaboration with other teams outside the MCL Cluster including the RISK Chief Conduct and Controls Office (CCCO), the CIB CCCO who are responsible for the IT risk frameworks, procedures and processes used to manage IT risks, as well as the CIB Production Security team who are responsible for the security of the facilities, data centres, networks, platforms and cloud infrastructure that the Market and Counterparty risk applications and teams use.
The job provides direct access to the RISK Systems Chief Information Security Officer on a daily basis.
Core accountabilities of role
- Entry level Risk professional accountable for providing routine support within their relevant team.
- Applies knowledge of standardised rules, procedures, and operations within Risk and determines a course of action based on those guidelines.
- Assists with risk assessment tasks and projects requiring general knowledge and limited business expertise.
- Assists in developing and establishing appropriate reporting and monitoring standards.
- Performs pieces of risk assessments based on specific instructions and with limited discretion.
- Works under own initiative, but with readily available supervision and guidance, to prioritise their workload and achieve their personal development and growth objectives within agreed timescales
- Builds internal working relationships with colleagues within Risk to increase their knowledge of the Risk function and its role in helping to support and drive business performance.
- A strong personal focus on accuracy and attention to detail and able to prioritise workload based on shifting business needs.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience
- Excellent analytical, IT and quantitative skills to extract and aggregate promptly risk at the required level with a critical eye on quality of data.
- Understanding of different risk metrics and their respective merits and caveats for market and counterparty risk. Knowledge of Risk Analysis, Risk Monitoring and Risk Opinion.
- Ability to react quickly but precisely in high pressure trading situations with Front Office interactions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to further build the business / risk relationship and to clearly and concisely report the risk in a jargon-free way.
- Ability to work in a team and interact with multiple stakeholders of different technical backgrounds.
