M&A (Sectors & Advisory)

  • Our Sectors & Advisory (M&A) franchise provides strategic advisory services to corporate and institutional clients undertaking mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs, divestitures, restructurings and other strategic operations such as IPOs and debt raise
  • Our advisory work is comprehensive, ranging from financial valuation through comprehensive financial analysis, to transaction negotiation and finalisation, as well as bespoke advice on corporate governance, shareholder activism and complex structured transactions.
  • We strive to create tailored advice to the specific dynamics of each situation and market in which our clients operate. We have extensive experience handling cross-border transactions, navigating international complexities
  • Responsibilities include rigorous financial analysis, valuation, transaction structuring, due diligence coordination, and negotiation of definitive agreements.

You will work within one of the following teams: 


Real Estate- coverage of a broad spectrum beyond traditional Real Estate including leisure, lodging, data centers and proptech across all investment banking products in Europe, the Middle East and Africa

CRH (Consumer retail and healthcare) – advising leading global corporates, founders and financial sponsors across food & beverage, consumer goods, beauty, home & personal care, luxury and retail, as well as pharma, biotech, medtech and healthcare services. Offering the full suite of investment banking products through a global platform with dedicated teams across Europe, the Americas and Asia

LCTG (Low carbon group) – coverage of a range of sectors within the energy and natural resources space, with key sub-segments being (i) Power & Utilities, focused on the renewables / power generation space, gas & electricity regulated utilities; (ii) Low Carbon Solutions, focused New Energies and other energy transition areas including Sustainable Fuels and Carbon Capture; (iii) Minerals & Metals, covering upstream and downstream activities in the space, with particular focus on transition minerals

Industrials – coverage of a broad spectrum across aerospace & defense (civil aerospace, defense, space, naval), automotive (OEMs, suppliers, new mobility, auto tech), capital goods (automation & machinery, flow control, power and mining equipment), business services (TIC, facility management, staffing), construction & building materials, chemicals and packaging, delivered across all investment banking products through a senior banker-led European platform complemented by dedicated teams in the US and APAC

TMT (technology media and telecoms) – Coverage spans Technology (IT Services, Software & Cloud, Payments / Processing, Hardware / Semiconductors), Media (OOH, Advertising & Agencies, Content, Entertainment & Gaming, B2B Media) and Telecom & Digital Infrastructure (Data Centres, Telco Operators, Towers, Fibre, Satellites), offering the full suite of investment banking products through a global platform with dedicated teams across EMEA and APAC

Advisory UK – Sector-agnostic UK M&A and strategic advisory team, advising large corporates, financial sponsors and financial institutions across the full spectrum of M&A and strategic corporate situations. Coverage spans buy-side and sell-side M&A, public-to-private transactions, mergers, demergers, defense advisory, shareholder activism and situations advisory, and complex cross-border and multi-product mandates. The team delivers the full suite of investment banking products through a global platform, drawing on BNP Paribas’s sector coverage groups, financing capabilities and international network across EMEA and beyond.

The Programme Overview 


The Internship

  • Our nine-week M&A internship gives you the chance to experience life at the centre of corporate and investment banking. After a week of training, you will spend eight weeks in one of our business areas, taking on real responsibility from the start and contributing to live client projects.
  • This is your opportunity to develop skills, build your network and demonstrate your potential for a place on our graduate programme.
  • You may only apply for one Summer Internship per academic year (Global Banking- Coverage, Capital Markets or M&A, Global Markets, Technology or Securities Services)
  • As part of this internship, you may be considered for the 2028 Global Banking Graduate Programme in London ONLY.


What You’ll Do

  • Execute live M&A deals: manage data rooms, due diligence and closing logistics.
  • Research industries and target companies; produce sector overviews and comparable transaction analysis.
  • Build and maintain financial models (DCF, merger model, LBO) and perform valuation/synergy testing.
  • Prepare client pitch books, memoranda and board presentations.
  • Assist in credit/risk assessments and draft transaction documentation (term sheets, NDAs, offers)
  • Collaborate with coverage bankers, capital markets and external advisors to deliver integrated solutions.

What We’re Looking For

To join the M&A Summer Internship, you should be in your penultimate year of study and:

  • Be fluent in English with strong written and verbal skills, additional languages are advantageous
  • On track for a 2:1 degree or equivalent
  • Strong interest in banking and financial markets
  • Excellent analytical and numerical ability
  • Organised, detail-focused and able to manage time effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional approach
  • A proactive mindset and eagerness to learn
  • Familiarity with financial modelling or coding (an advantage but not required)
